A Midsummer Night's Dream — Act 5, Scene 1: Athens. The palace of THESEUS.

Back in Theseus’s palace, Theseus and Hippolyta discuss the lovers’ strange story from the night before, and Theseus argues that lovers, madpeople, and poets all shape reality through imagination. The four lovers enter joyfully, and Theseus welcomes them before asking Philostrate for entertainment for the evening. Philostrate offers several choices, but Theseus rejects the more serious ones and chooses the play performed by Quince’s company. The mechanicals present a badly spoken prologue and a clumsy version of Pyramus and Thisby, which the court jokes about throughout. After the play ends, Theseus orders dancing and sends everyone to bed. Then Puck and the fairies bless the palace and close the scene.
