All's Well That Ends Well — Act 3, Scene 2: Rousillon. The COUNT's palace.

Back in Rousillon, the Countess waits for news and learns from the Clown that Bertram is unhappy and has sent a letter. In it, Bertram tells her he has married Helena but refuses to live with her, says he has run away, and claims he will stay away while he can keep his promise of separation. The Countess is angered by his selfishness, especially because he has rejected the King’s favor and insulted Helena. Helena arrives with two gentlemen who confirm that Bertram has gone to Florence, and she reads his harsh condition for accepting her as his wife. After the guests leave, Helena grieves over Bertram’s danger in war and decides to leave Rousillon that night.
