Antony and Cleopatra — Act 1, Scene 3: The same. Another room.

Cleopatra asks where Antony is and sends Alexas to find out what he is doing and how he feels. Charmian advises her to stop resisting and give Antony whatever he wants, but Cleopatra rejects that approach. When Antony arrives, she pretends to be sick and offended, accusing him of betrayal and mocking his devotion. Antony explains that he must leave because Rome is in turmoil and because Fulvia is dead. Cleopatra continues to tease and test him, then changes tone and bids him farewell with royal grace. Antony answers that though he is leaving Egypt, his heart remains with her, and they go out together.
