King Lear — Act 3, Scene 7: Gloucester's castle.

Cornwall, Regan, Goneril, and Edmund agree to act quickly after hearing that France’s army has landed. Oswald reports that Gloucester has taken Lear toward Dover with several knights, and Goneril and Edmund leave with Oswald. Cornwall then has Gloucester seized and tied to a chair, and he questions him about letters from France and about why he sent Lear to Dover. Gloucester admits he wanted to protect Lear from Regan and Goneril’s cruelty. When Cornwall prepares to blind him, a servant tries to stop him and is killed by Regan. Cornwall then tears out Gloucester’s eyes, and Gloucester realizes Edgar was innocent.
