Much Ado About Nothing — Act 1, Scene 1: Before LEONATO'S house.

At Leonato’s house in Messina, Leonato, Hero, and Beatrice greet a messenger who brings news that Don Pedro is arriving that night with Claudio and Benedick after the war. Leonato hears that Claudio has won honour, and he is moved to tears when told that Claudio’s uncle has already received letters. Beatrice immediately teases Benedick, mocking his boasts and manners. When Don Pedro, Don John, Claudio, Benedick, and Balthasar arrive, Leonato welcomes them warmly, and Beatrice and Benedick trade sharp insults. After the others go inside, Claudio quietly asks Benedick about Hero, admits he loves her, and Don Pedro offers to help him win her by speaking to Hero and Leonato.
