Much Ado About Nothing — Act 1, Scene 3: The same.

Don John enters with Conrade in a bitter mood and says he cannot hide his bad temper or pretend to be cheerful. Conrade urges him to control his feelings and wait for a better time, since Don John has only recently been taken back into Don Pedro’s favor. Don John rejects that advice and says he would rather remain openly villainous than flatter anyone. Borachio then arrives and reports news from Leonato’s supper: Claudio is expected to marry Hero, but the plan is that Don Pedro will court Hero for Claudio and then give her to him. Don John immediately sees a chance to cause trouble and sets off with them to the supper.
