Othello, the Moore of Venice — Act 2, Scene 1: A Sea-port in Cyprus. An open place near the quay.

At the Cyprus seaport, Montano and two gentlemen watch the storm and learn that the Turkish fleet has been broken up by rough weather. A third gentleman brings news that the war is effectively over because the Turkish ships have been wrecked, and that Cassio has arrived while Othello is still at sea. Cassio enters, speaks anxiously about Othello’s safety, and welcomes Desdemona when she arrives with Emilia, Iago, and Roderigo. She asks about her husband, then Othello arrives and joyfully reunites with her. After they leave for the castle, Iago turns Roderigo against Cassio by claiming Desdemona loves Cassio and urging him to provoke Cassio that night.
