Othello, the Moore of Venice — Act 3, Scene 4: Before the castle.

Desdemona, Emilia, and the Clown look for Cassio, and Desdemona sends the Clown to bring him to her so she can continue pleading his case with Othello. Left with Emilia, Desdemona worries about the handkerchief she has lost and says Othello’s strange temper makes her fear he may think badly of her. Othello enters, speaks coldly to her, and asks for the handkerchief, which she cannot produce. He tells her an elaborate story about the token’s importance, but she keeps pressing Cassio’s cause. Othello grows increasingly agitated and leaves. Cassio then arrives with Iago, begs Desdemona’s help, and later meets Bianca, to whom he gives the handkerchief for copying.
