Othello, the Moore of Venice — Act 4, Scene 2: A room in the castle.

In the castle, Othello questions Emilia about Desdemona and Cassio, pressing her to say whether she ever saw them alone, whispering, or sending her away for errands. Emilia firmly defends Desdemona’s honesty and warns Othello that some villain has poisoned his mind. Othello sends her to bring Desdemona. When Desdemona enters, he accuses her of being false, dismisses Emilia, and calls her a whore and a devilish keeper of secrets. Desdemona is shocked and can only deny the charge. Emilia returns with Iago, and Desdemona asks how to win back Othello’s love. Emilia and Iago both try to calm her, but she remains miserable and confused.
