Othello, the Moore of Venice — Act 5, Scene 2: A bedchamber in the castle: Desdemona in bed asleep;

In the bedchamber, Othello stands over the sleeping Desdemona and decides to kill her, though he briefly struggles with her innocence and beauty. He wakes her, questions whether she has prayed, and accuses her of a crime that cannot be forgiven. Desdemona is confused and begs for mercy, but Othello insists she has given Cassio the handkerchief and that she must die. When she denies it, he smothers her despite her pleas for time and prayer. Emilia soon arrives with news of Roderigo’s death, discovers Desdemona dead, and publicly exposes Othello’s false accusation. Emilia then reveals that Iago used the handkerchief to deceive him, and Othello, exposed and ruined, kills himself after the truth comes out.
