Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 2, Scene 4: Tyre. A room in the Governor's house.

Helicanus tells Escanes that Antiochus and his daughter were destroyed by fire from heaven because of their incest, and he treats the event as just punishment. Then several lords arrive and complain that Pericles has been gone too long, leaving Tyre without a ruler. They urge Helicanus to take the crown instead, since he has the wisdom to govern. Helicanus refuses their offer and asks them to wait one year for Pericles to return. If he does not, Helicanus says he will then accept their choice. The lords agree to search for Pericles, and the scene ends with mutual loyalty between Helicanus and the nobles.
