Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 4, Scene 0

Gower explains that Pericles has safely reached Tyre and that Thaisa remains at Ephesus as a votaress of Diana. He then shifts the story to Marina, now living in Tarsus and being raised by Cleon with careful education in music and graceful skills. Gower praises Marina’s beauty and talents, but says that this excellence stirs envy in Cleon’s wife, Dionyza, especially because her own daughter Philoten, though grown and marriageable, cannot match Marina. Gower says Dionyza has already planned Marina’s murder and introduces Leonine, the servant who will carry out the crime, before ending the scene.
