Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 4, Scene 3: Tarsus. A room in Cleon's house.

Cleon and Dionyza react to Marina’s killing, and both immediately feel the horror of what has been done. Cleon curses the act and fears what Pericles will say when he asks for his daughter, while Dionyza insists they can claim Marina died during the night and that no one can prove otherwise. She argues that Marina’s beauty made her own daughter less admired and presents the murder as something done for Cleon’s family benefit. Cleon is disgusted and compares Dionyza to a creature that hides cruelty under a pleasing face, but Dionyza confidently assumes he will follow her plan and keep silent.
