Pericles, Prince of Tyre — Act 4, Scene 4

Gower opens before Marina’s monument in Tarsus and explains that Pericles is returning there with Helicanus and a company of lords and knights to visit the daughter he still believes he has lost. In the dumb show, Cleon and Dionyza show him the tomb, and Pericles falls into intense grief, puts on sackcloth, and departs in mourning. Gower says he rides out a storm at sea and vows not to wash or cut his hair. He then reads the false epitaph Dionyza has written for Marina, praising her beauty while claiming she is dead. Gower ends by sending the audience to Mytilene, where Marina’s troubles continue.
