The Comedy of Errors — Act 3, Scene 1: Before the house of ANTIPHOLUS of Ephesus.

Antipholus of Ephesus returns home with Dromio of Ephesus, Angelo, and Balthazar, but his wife’s house is locked against him. He tells Angelo to excuse his late arrival by pretending they were at the shop over a necklace, while Dromio of Ephesus argues over the mistaken beating and the confusion over money and names. From inside, Dromio of Syracuse and Luce mock him and refuse to open the door, and Adriana joins in, believing he is her husband acting badly. Angelo and Balthazar urge patience and warn against public scandal, so Antipholus gives up on forcing entry, decides to dine elsewhere, and asks Angelo to bring the chain later.
