The First part of King Henry the Fourth — Act 3, Scene 2: London. The palace.

In the palace, King Henry dismisses the lords so he can speak privately with Prince Henry. He tells the Prince that his reckless life has made him seem like a punishment sent for the king’s own sins and that Harry has sunk into company beneath his rank. The Prince answers with humility and asks for forgiveness, promising to reform. Henry then compares Harry unfavorably with Hotspur, praising the rebel’s martial fame and saying Hotspur has more claim to public honor than the Prince. Harry swears he will win back his father’s trust by defeating Hotspur and redeeming his shame. Blunt arrives with news that the rebels have gathered at Shrewsbury, and Henry orders preparations for war.
