The First part of King Henry the Fourth — Act 4, Scene 1: The rebel camp near Shrewsbury.

At the rebel camp, Hotspur praises Douglas and openly declares his admiration for him. A messenger then brings letters from Northumberland, and Hotspur learns that his father is too sick to join the rebellion. Worcester worries that Northumberland’s absence will weaken their cause, but Hotspur argues that it may also make their enterprise seem bolder. Sir Richard Vernon arrives with worse news: Westmoreland is approaching with Prince John, and the king himself is marching out with a large army. Vernon also describes Prince Henry’s impressive warlike appearance, which irritates Hotspur. After hearing that Glendower is delayed, Hotspur orders a muster and prepares for battle.
