The First part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 5, Scene 4: Camp of the YORK in Anjou.

York orders Joan la Pucelle brought in as a condemned sorceress, and Joan’s supposed father, a shepherd, is also dragged onstage. The shepherd insists Joan is his daughter, but Joan denies him and claims noble birth. When York and Warwick mock her, Joan tries to defend herself as a holy virgin chosen by heaven, then changes tactics and claims she is pregnant to escape execution. York and Warwick treat her claim as proof of her dishonor and argue over which Frenchman fathered the child. Joan is led away under curse and abuse. Then Winchester arrives with royal commission and announces a proposed peace between England and France, and Charles comes to negotiate the terms.
