The Life and Death of Julius Caesar — Act 3, Scene 2: The Forum.

Brutus and Cassius come before the Roman citizens and split the crowd so each man can speak separately. Brutus addresses the people first, explaining that he killed Caesar not because he hated him, but because he loved Rome more and believed Caesar’s ambition would make the people slaves. The citizens accept his reasoning and praise him. Brutus then leaves Antony with the body. Antony begins his funeral speech by seeming to support Brutus, but he steadily turns the crowd against the conspirators by pointing to Caesar’s loyalty, his refusal of the crown, and his wounds. When he reads Caesar’s will and names the gifts to the people, the citizens turn violent.
