The Life and Death of King John — Act 4, Scene 3: Before the castle.

Arthur appears on the walls, decides to escape by jumping down, and dies after the fall. Pembroke, Salisbury, and Bigot arrive talking about a meeting with the French, but the Bastard comes to summon them to King John instead. They refuse, then discover Arthur’s body and react with horror, taking his death as proof of murder by Hubert and the king. They swear revenge and leave for the Dauphin. Hubert then arrives and insists Arthur is alive and that John has sent for them, but the lords reject him. The Bastard questions Hubert, realizes the danger England is in, and orders Arthur’s body carried away.
