The Life and Death of King John — Act 5, Scene 4: Another part of the field.

Salisbury, Pembroke, and Bigot are on the battlefield and see that the French struggle is going badly, with the Bastard still holding the fight together and King John apparently gone from the field. Then Melun, a wounded French noble, is brought in. He tells the English lords to abandon their rebellion and return to John, because Lewis has sworn that if he wins, he will reward them by having them killed. Melun says he has revealed the truth because he is dying and has no reason to lie. The English nobles believe him, turn against the French cause, and help carry Melun away from the field.
