The Life and Death of Richard the Second — Act 3, Scene 3: Wales. Before Flint castle.

Bolingbroke, York, Northumberland, and their troops learn that the Welsh forces have broken up and that Salisbury has gone to meet King Richard, who has landed nearby with only a few supporters. York objects when Northumberland speaks of Richard too casually, and Bolingbroke warns York not to push too far. Harry Percy arrives, and Northumberland reports that Richard is inside Flint Castle with Aumerle, Salisbury, Scroop, and a cleric. Bolingbroke sends a formal message demanding his rights and threatening war only if they are refused. Richard appears on the walls, denounces Bolingbroke’s treason, and demands to know his intentions. Northumberland replies that Bolingbroke wants only his inheritance, and Richard finally agrees to come down and meet him in the base court.
