The Life and Death of Richard the Third — Act 1, Scene 2: The same. Another street.

Lady Anne leads the corpse of King Henry VI for burial, cursing the man who killed her husband Edward of Lancaster and Henry. Gloucester suddenly enters, orders the hearse stopped, and begins a harsh exchange with her. Anne denounces him as the murderer of both men, but Gloucester turns the conversation into a strange attempt to excuse himself and praise her beauty. He admits killing Henry and Prince Edward, then offers her his sword and even urges her to kill him. When she drops the sword, he wins her over with more flattery and persuades her to let him accompany the burial, promising to visit her later. After she leaves, Gloucester boasts that he has won her.
