The Life of King Henry the Eighth — Act 1, Scene 2: The same. The council-chamber.

In the council chamber, Henry enters supported by Wolsey and thanks him for helping him escape a political threat. Queen Katherine then arrives and kneels to ask Henry to protect his honour and relieve his subjects from harsh tax commissions that have caused anger and unrest, especially among cloth workers. Henry questions Wolsey, then orders letters sent to every county offering pardon to those who resisted the levy. After that, Katherine raises concern for Buckingham. Henry asks for proof of Buckingham’s treason, and the Surveyor gives damaging testimony about Buckingham’s words and ambitions. Henry believes the charges and orders Buckingham arrested and brought to trial.
