The Life of King Henry the Eighth — Act 2, Scene 3: An ante-chamber of the QUEEN'S apartments.

Anne and the Old Lady discuss Queen Katherine’s sad position, pitying her because she has long lived in honour and now faces being cast off. Anne says it is better to live humbly than to wear “golden sorrow,” while the Old Lady teases her for pretending not to want power or rank. The Chamberlain then arrives and tells Anne that King Henry has noticed her and means to honour her as Marchioness of Pembroke, with an income of a thousand pounds a year. Anne responds modestly and thanks the king through him. After he leaves, the Old Lady jokes about Anne’s sudden rise, but Anne feels troubled and asks that nothing be told to the Queen.
