The Merry Wives of Windsor — Act 1, Scene 1: Windsor. Before PAGE's house.

At Page’s house in Windsor, Justice Shallow, Slender, and Sir Hugh Evans arrive grumbling about Falstaff, who has offended Shallow. Evans tries to calm the dispute and, with Page, brings Falstaff and his companions into the discussion. Falstaff denies the accusations and mocks Slender, while Slender complains that Bardolph, Nym, and Pistol cheated and robbed him when he was drunk. The tension eases when Anne Page, Mistress Ford, and Mistress Page appear with wine, and Page invites everyone to dinner. After the others go in, Shallow and Evans press Slender toward marrying Anne Page, and Slender awkwardly agrees before being drawn toward the meal.
