The Merry Wives of Windsor — Act 2, Scene 2: A room in the Garter Inn.

At the Garter Inn, Falstaff quarrels with Pistol and refuses to give him money, accusing him of taking advantage of Falstaff’s reputation and favors. Mistress Quickly then arrives as messenger for Mistress Ford and Mistress Page. She tells Falstaff that Mistress Ford has received his letter, will be alone while her husband is away, and wants him to visit; she also says Mistress Page sends the same kind of encouragement and asks him to send his page as a go-between. Falstaff is delighted and sends Robin with her. Afterward, Bardolph introduces a gentleman named Master Brook, who is really Ford in disguise, and Ford pretends to be a jealous admirer seeking Falstaff’s help in wooing Mistress Ford. Falstaff readily agrees.
