The Second part of King Henry the Fourth — Act 1, Scene 1: The same.

At Northumberland’s house, Lord Bardolph arrives with alarming but false news from Shrewsbury, claiming that King Henry is nearly dead, Prince Harry is killed, and Hotspur has won. Northumberland questions the report, then hears from his servant Travers, who has also picked up uncertain rumors that suggest rebellion has failed. Morton then enters with the true account: Hotspur is dead, Worcester is captured, Douglas is taken, and the king has won. Northumberland is overwhelmed with grief and rage, but Morton and the others urge him not to abandon reason. Morton also reports that the Archbishop of York has raised forces. Northumberland resolves to gather allies and prepare for action.
