The Second part of King Henry the Fourth — Act 4, Scene 2: Another part of the forest.

Prince John of Lancaster meets the rebel leaders in the field and greets them with measured courtesy before sharply accusing Archbishop Scrope and the others of abusing religion and rebellion for political power. Scrope argues that the kingdom’s disorder and the crown’s refusal to hear their complaints forced them into arms, while Mowbray and Hastings insist they are ready to fight if necessary. Lancaster appears to accept their articles, promises redress, and proposes a friendly settlement, even as both sides order their armies to stand down. When the rebel troops disperse, Lancaster has Westmoreland arrest Scrope, Mowbray, and Hastings for treason and orders them guarded for execution.
