The Taming of the Shrew — Act 0, Scene 2: A bedchamber in the Lord's house.

In the Lord’s bedchamber, Sly wakes to servants treating him as a nobleman, offering him luxury instead of his usual ale and rough clothing. At first he insists he is Christopher Sly, a tinker, but the Lord keeps up the deception and persuades him that he has been mad for fifteen years. Sly slowly accepts the idea, asks for his supposed wife, and greets the Lord’s page, who enters dressed as a lady and plays that role. When the page says doctors forbid her from sharing his bed, Sly agrees to wait. A messenger then announces that the Lord’s players have arrived to perform a comedy, and Sly eagerly agrees to watch it.
