The Taming of the Shrew — Act 2, Scene 1: Padua. A room in BAPTISTA'S house.

In Baptista’s house, Katherina mistreats Bianca and demands to know which suitor Bianca prefers. Bianca denies favoring any man, but Katherina accuses her of lying, then strikes her when Bianca asks to be untied. Baptista rushes in, rebukes Katherina, and sends Bianca away. Soon Gremio, Petruchio, Tranio, and the disguised Lucentio and Hortensio arrive. Petruchio boldly asks for Katherina, presents Hortensio as a music teacher, and hears that he may court her if he can win her love. After Hortensio returns with a broken head, Petruchio meets Katherina and spars with her. Baptista then agrees to the match and turns to Bianca’s suitors, finally setting the wedding order and demanding the best dowry offer.
