The Tempest — Act 2, Scene 1: Another part of the island.

On the island, Alonso, Sebastian, Antonio, Gonzalo, Adrian, and Francisco argue over their survival and the strange condition of their clothes. Gonzalo tries to comfort Alonso, who mourns Ferdinand and blames himself for sending Claribel to Tunis. Sebastian and Antonio mock Gonzalo’s every remark, then fall into a private exchange while the others grow drowsy. Ariel enters invisibly and plays solemn music that sends everyone except Alonso, Sebastian, and Antonio to sleep. Antonio then presses Sebastian to think about taking advantage of Alonso’s helplessness, reminding him how Antonio himself took Prospero’s dukedom. Sebastian finally agrees to help Antonio in a plot against Alonso and Gonzalo, but Ariel returns and awakens the sleepers just in time.
