The Third part of King Henry the Sixth — Act 1, Scene 4: Another part of the field.

York is left alone after his forces are beaten and his uncles are killed, and he sees the queen’s army closing in. Margaret, Clifford, Northumberland, and Prince Edward enter with soldiers and surround him. Clifford and Margaret taunt York for his claim to the throne, then Margaret mocks him with news of Rutland’s death and places a paper crown on his head in cruel ridicule. York answers with bitter curses and grief, then hands the crown back to Margaret and asks for death. Clifford stabs him, Margaret joins in, and York dies. Margaret orders his head cut off and set above the gates of York.
