The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 1, Scene 4: Before Corioli.

Before Corioli, Marcius and Titus Lartius wait with the Roman army for news of the Volsces. A messenger says the enemy is in sight, and the Romans sound a challenge. From the walls, Volscian senators mock them and report that Aufidius is inside the city fighting. The battle begins, and the Volsces drive the Romans back to their trenches. Marcius returns furious, shaming his men for fleeing and urging them to stand and fight. He then pursues the Volsces to the gates and rushes inside alone, where the city shuts him in. Lartius and the soldiers fear he is lost, but Marcius reappears bleeding as the fighting continues and the Romans enter the city.
