The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 3, Scene 3: The same. The Forum.

In the Forum, Sicinius and Brutus prepare the citizens to back whatever punishment they choose against Coriolanus, now that he has come with Menenius and the senators. When Coriolanus arrives, the tribunes press him on whether he submits to the people’s authority, then accuse him of plotting against Rome’s common power. Coriolanus quickly loses control and insults the tribunes and the crowd. Sicinius uses that anger to declare him banished from Rome in the people’s name. Cominius tries to speak for him, but is shut down. Coriolanus then answers the sentence with a fierce rejection of the citizens and leaves the city.
