The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 5, Scene 2: Entrance of the Volscian camp before Rome.

Menenius comes to the Volscian camp before Rome and tries to pass the guards so he can speak with Coriolanus. The two Volscian senators refuse him at first, mocking his loyalty to Rome and telling him that Coriolanus has sworn off pardon. Menenius pleads that he is Coriolanus’s old friend and insists his name should open the way, but they keep blocking him. When Coriolanus and Aufidius finally enter, Menenius greets Coriolanus like a son and begs him to spare Rome. Coriolanus rejects him coldly, says his private affections no longer matter, gives Menenius a letter, and leaves with Aufidius. The guards then send Menenius away.
