The Tragedy of Coriolanus — Act 5, Scene 4: Rome. A public place.

Menenius and Sicinius stand near the Capitol and talk about Coriolanus, whom Menenius now sees as hard and almost inhuman. Sicinius admits that Coriolanus once loved his mother, but Menenius says that love is gone and blames the tribunes for bringing this danger on Rome by helping banish him. A messenger then arrives with alarming news that the common people have seized Sicinius and are threatening him unless the Roman ladies succeed in persuading Coriolanus to spare the city. A second messenger quickly follows with better news: Volumnia, Virgilia, Valeria, and Young Marcius have prevailed, the Volscians have withdrawn, and Coriolanus has departed. Trumpets and cheers sound in Rome as Menenius and Sicinius go to meet the women.
