The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark — Act 1, Scene 4: The platform.

Hamlet comes onto the platform with Horatio and Marcellus in the cold night and hears cannon fire and trumpets from Claudius’s drinking celebration. He criticizes the Danish custom of heavy revelry, saying it damages the country’s reputation and can stain a person’s whole character if one fault is allowed to dominate. The ghost then appears, and Hamlet speaks to it as if it may be his father, asking why it has returned from the grave. When the ghost beckons him away, Horatio and Marcellus beg him not to follow, warning that the spirit may lead him into danger or madness. Hamlet ignores them and goes after the ghost.
