The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark — Act 3, Scene 2: A hall in the castle.

Hamlet coaches the First Player on how to act naturally, warning against overacting and urging him to match gesture to speech. After the players leave, Hamlet asks Polonius, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern to hurry the performance, then privately brings Horatio in and praises his honesty and steadiness. He tells Horatio that the play will include a scene resembling his father’s murder and asks him to watch Claudius closely for any sign of guilt. As the court enters, Hamlet exchanges sharp jokes with Claudius and Gertrude, teases Polonius, and sits with Ophelia. The dumb-show and play begin, and Hamlet comments on the action while the court watches.
