The Tragedy of Macbeth — Act 3, Scene 2: The palace.

Lady Macbeth asks a servant whether Banquo has left the court, and learns that he will return that night. Alone, she admits that their ambition has brought them no peace and that it feels safer to be the thing they destroy than to live with uneasy success. Macbeth enters, troubled and isolated, and she urges him to hide his thoughts and appear cheerful at the feast. Macbeth says their situation is still dangerous because Banquo and Fleance are alive, and he hints that another bloody act will be done before night ends. He tells Lady Macbeth to remain ignorant of the details and goes off with her, determined to disguise his mind and move forward with evil.
