The Tragedy of Macbeth — Act 3, Scene 6: Forres. The palace.

Lennox speaks privately with another lord and, through heavy sarcasm, suggests that Macbeth is responsible for Duncan’s murder and Banquo’s death. He repeats the official story that Fleance killed Banquo, while Malcolm and Donalbain supposedly killed their father, but his tone makes clear he does not believe it. Lennox says Macbeth has acted like a dutiful king by punishing the alleged killers, then notes that Macduff has fallen out of favor because he did not attend Macbeth’s feast. The lord explains that Macduff has gone to England to ask King Edward for help and to urge English nobles to support action against Macbeth, while Macbeth himself is preparing for war.
