Timon of Athens — Act 3, Scene 4: The same. A hall in Timon's house.

At Timon’s house, the servants of Varro, Lucius, and others gather to wait for payment and complain about how long Timon is keeping them. They compare the debts their masters are owed and grumble over the situation. Flavius, disguised and then entering, tells them Timon is shut up in his chamber and in no condition to receive them, but Timon soon storms out in anger. He demands their bills, is overwhelmed by the total, and curses the creditors. After they leave, Timon tells Flavius to invite Lucius, Lucullus, and Sempronius back to dinner, despite Flavius’s warning that there is not enough money for a proper feast.
