Timon of Athens — Act 3, Scene 6: The same. A banqueting-room in Timon's house.

At Timon’s house, several lords and senators arrive for the banquet and talk privately about how Timon tested his friends when he needed help. They also mention that Alcibiades has been banished from Athens. Timon enters warmly, seats them, and speaks as if the feast is generous, but then orders the dishes uncovered and reveals that they contain only warm water. He denounces the guests as flattering parasites, throws the water and dishes in their faces, and drives them away while cursing his house, Athens, and all humanity. The lords return confused, missing their caps and gowns, and decide Timon has gone mad.
