In Rome, Titus desperately pleads with the judges and tribunes to spare his sons Martius and Quintus as they are led to execution, but the officials ignore him and pass on. Lucius tries to rescue his brothers and is banished for it. Marcus arrives with the mutilated Lavinia, and Titus is devastated to discover what has been done to his daughter. Aaron then brings word from Saturninus that one of Titus’s hands will save Martius and Quintus, and Titus agrees to sacrifice his own hand. While Lucius and Marcus leave to fetch an axe, Aaron cuts off Titus’s hand and later returns with the heads of Martius and Quintus and Titus’s hand in mockery. Titus vows to seek revenge and sends Lucius to the Goths.
