Titus Andronicus — Act 4, Scene 2: The same. A room in the palace.

Young Lucius arrives with an Attendant carrying weapons and verses that Titus has sent to Demetrius and Chiron as a show of courtesy. The two men read the writing and realize the message is a disguised accusation against them. Aaron mocks their ignorance, but the scene shifts when the Nurse enters with Tamora’s newborn child and tells Aaron that the empress has delivered a baby by him. Aaron at first resists killing it, then, after learning that only the Nurse and midwife know the truth, he kills the Nurse to protect the secret. He then orders Demetrius and Chiron to help conceal the infant by substituting another child.
