Troilus and Cressida — Act 5, Scene 5: Another part of the plains.

Diomedes sends his servant to take Troilus’s horse to Cressida and tell her that he has beaten Troilus and proven himself her lover. Soon after, Agamemnon enters with grim news of the battle: Polydamas has overpowered Menon, Margarelon has captured Doreus, and several Greek leaders are dead or badly wounded, including Patroclus, who may be slain. Nestor comes in and orders Patroclus’s body taken to Achilles, while urging Ajax to arm quickly. Ulysses reports that Achilles has been roused to fury by Patroclus’s wounds, and Ajax is also enraged. As the commanders call for courage, Ajax shouts for Troilus and Achilles demands Hector.
