Twelfth Night — Act 4, Scene 2: OLIVIA's house.

Maria brings the Clown a gown and beard so he can pretend to be Sir Topas, a curate, and torment Malvolio in his confinement. Sir Toby and Maria join him as he speaks to Malvolio through the darkened room, pretending to be a learned clergyman and mocking Malvolio’s claim that he is sane. The Clown uses nonsense logic and questions to unsettle him, while Sir Toby enjoys the performance. After Toby and Maria leave, the Clown sings to Malvolio, who finally stops arguing and asks for a candle, paper, and ink to write to Olivia. The Clown agrees to fetch them, then leaves singing.
