Two Gentlemen of Verona — Act 2, Scene 1: Milan. The DUKE's palace.

In the Duke’s palace at Milan, Speed brings Valentine a glove that turns out to be Silvia’s, and Valentine immediately shows his longing for her. Speed teases him by listing all the ways love has changed him, but Valentine keeps asking about Silvia and admits he is in love. Silvia arrives, and Valentine presents the letter he has written for her, supposedly to a secret admirer. Their conversation is full of double meanings, and Silvia returns the letter, saying it was not written well enough. After she leaves, Speed explains that Silvia’s refusal has actually encouraged Valentine. Valentine does not understand the joke, and Speed finally urges him to stop talking and go to dinner.
