Two Gentlemen of Verona — Act 3, Scene 2: The same. The DUKE's palace.

At the Duke’s palace, the Duke reassures Thurio that Silvia will eventually love him now that Valentine has been banished, though Thurio says she still rejects him bitterly. Proteus arrives, confirms that Valentine is gone, and is warmly trusted by the Duke. When the Duke asks how to make Silvia forget Valentine and accept Thurio, Proteus suggests slandering Valentine as false and low-born, but pretends reluctance before agreeing to help. Thurio then asks how to court Silvia, and Proteus advises him to use poems, tears, music, and a nighttime serenade. Pleased, the Duke and Thurio decide to act at once, and all three go out together.
