Two Gentlemen of Verona — Act 4, Scene 4: The same.

Launce complains that his dog Crab has embarrassed him while he was delivering the animal to Silvia, stealing food at her table and getting Launce punished in his place. Proteus arrives with Julia, whom he has taken on as a page named Sebastian, and sends Launce off to find the missing dog again. Proteus then gives Sebastian a ring and letter to deliver to Silvia and asks for the portrait she has promised him. Julia, serving him unwillingly, speaks sadly of Silvia and her own loss, then carries out the message. Silvia is cold to Proteus’s suit, rejects the ring, but gives her portrait to Sebastian with a purse for Julia’s supposed mistress.
